Ian Muir is the Head of Insights at Catalyst Energy Advisors, with nearly 20 years of experience in energy finance and analysis. He began his career at PFC Energy (now S&P Global), where he co-developed greenhouse gas emissions models for large energy companies. He later joined EarthSpark International in Haiti, where he co-managed the build-out of the country's first prepay solar microgrid in Les Anglais. As an Energy Access Consultant for The World Bank, he advised governments on off-grid electrification programs, including leading the design of the $55 million off-grid solar component of the LEAD project in Madagascar. In his current role at Catalyst, he has advised the Government of Haiti on the structuring of its Off-Grid Electricity Fund (OGEF) and managed tools and models for leading organizations such as the Rockefeller Foundation, Shell Foundation, CLASP, SEforALL, and IKEA Foundation. His work spans financial modeling of subsidy needs for productive-use appliances, due diligence and capital-raising support for off-grid solar companies, open-source data tools for last-mile distributors, and predictive models estimating the financing required to eliminate energy poverty. He holds advanced degrees in International Relations and Economics (Johns Hopkins SAIS) and Chemistry (Trinity College Dublin).
